PJ’s dream is to become a pizza delivery boy one day. He likes make money as soon possible. He doesn’t like to think about too far of the future. He likes to have fun and care less. Because he has already too much to bear. Fun for PJ means to do anything that diverts his mind. He has tried cigarettes, drank alcohol a lot many times, and he knows many older kids in the neighborhood who use all kinds of drugs.
NMHER established a financial fund in February 2022 called “Support PJ”. NMHER has collaboration between PJ’s family and a private boarding school in Lalitpur, Nepal. “Support PJ” fund supports PJ’s 75% of total monthly expenses, and PJ’s mother supports 25%. PJ’s total monthly expense of the private boarding school is US$180 (NRs 23, 000). Through this collaboration, the total monthly expense of private boarding school is made very affordable.
The school provides mental health counseling, additional tutoring, and academic supports so that PJ can improve his academic knowledge up to the average 7th grade students in major subjects by the end of the academic year. The school and NMHER has understanding over how to monitor PJ’s academic and personal growth over time. The school hostel provides additional academic supports, ensure safe residential atmosphere, extracurricular activities, nutritional food, and communication with PJ’s family members.
Support PJ Project
PJ is a 13-year-old boy in Nepal. During last 2 ½ years, since pandemic started, he lost his father in an accident, his young, widowed mother could not give important guidance and motivation to PJ, and his academic level have further declined from 2 ½ years ago (4th grade) although he recently promoted to grade 7. PJ is not motivated to continue his education because classes are boring. PJ’s family have found PJ being increasingly aloof, always glued with his smartphone, irritable and gets angry easily and stays up late at night and waking up late in the morning.
